Where else would you have a Hawaiian-themed race in the middle of October in Upstate New York but at Rock Valley Brewing Company? On Saturday, the runners dressed up in their finest outfits and stepped into the cold to raise money for the Little Falls Food Pantry.

Rob Richard, race organizer, stated, “This was the second annual Rock Valley Run. This is a fun event, and this year we tried to have it focus just on running and having a good time. There were no awards for finishing, but two awards – best-dressed female and best-dressed male.”

He said it was Hawaiian-themed because the brewery was having a Hawaiian party that night.

“We coordinated with the brewery so that the runners would be finishing around the time the party would start. We encouraged the runners to dress in whatever Hawaiian garb they wanted to run in. Thankfully, a bunch of them showed up dressed for it.”

The course was approximately 4 1/2 miles and went through the south side.

“We’re appreciative of the volunteers and the brewery that helped pay for the sunglasses we gave to all the runners,” he said.

Once they take out expenses, the remaining money will be donated to the food pantry.

One other exciting thing (other than the costumes) about the race? Richard piloted the ‘pace-car’ his electric bike that had been outfitted with a flashing yellow light on the back.
