Eyewear designed to withstand the lifestyles of little ones. OT  rounds up some of the most colourful – and hardy – styles for children

Sons + Daughters has launched its new campaign for the spring and summer, inspired by the dance and fashion culture of the 90s and featuring frames from its ‘Classic’ and ‘Studio’ collections. New for the season, the brand has introduced new ‘jelly’ colours of transparent hues. Frames in the ‘Classic’ range incorporate timeless and iconic styles, including the hexagonal ‘Honey,’ round ‘Lenny,’ and flower-shaped ‘Pixie.’ The models are made from Italian acetate with spring hinges ad clear CR-39 lenses. The ‘Studio’ collection includes models built for “playful energy” with sturdy moulded frames. Styles include ‘Kurt,’ which is inspired by the 90s, and the thick-framed cat’s eye sunglasses, ‘Cat Cat.’ The brand has also launched its debut collection of metal frames, ‘Future Metal,’ in a range of styles designed to suit older children into their teenage years. The new collection includes styles in ‘forward-looking’ designs, such as the oval ‘Neo,’ or angular ‘Trini,’ along with the aviator-esque ‘Maverick,’ and round ‘Leon.’

Tomato Glasses has introduced several new styles for the UK market, with colourways including plum and chocolate, and a style featuring colourful unicorns. Two frames are available in the plum shade, with ‘TKAC511 Plum’ offering a “playful, yet sophisticated” oval model, and the ‘TKDC506 Plum’ in a rectangular shape. Also featuring the rectangle style, the ‘TKDC507 Chocolate’ frame brings together chocolate-brown front and sides with black ear tips. Rounding off recent launches from the company, the UK supplier has introduced a collection of transparent frames featuring illustrated unicorns, following a request from a practice in Scotland, whose young customer had seen the popular pink unicorn frames, but wanted a clear model. Available in rectangular and oval models, the unicorn frames now include clear, transparent purple and transparent pink. Commenting on the frames, Sarah Gillingham, managing director of Tomato Glasses UK, highlighted: “It’s always worth asking us if you have a favourite frame you would like to create and we will do our best. We can also create bespoke frames by mix and matching frame fronts, temples, and ear tips within the ranges.” “If a young person has been able to create their own frame, then they are more likely to enjoy wearing them and feel proud to wear glasses,” she added. Tomato Glasses highlighted that all of its frames are lightweight and shape-intelligent, being adjustable to the face of each wearer. Each frame is provided with removable nose pads and spares, additional ear tips, and a detachable headband.

Eyespace has introduced its first sustainable models in its Rock Star collection for children and young people, in a capsule aimed at “a young generation who are now more aware of the environmental impact on nature than ever.” Each model in the capsule collection is named after an endangered sea animal, such as the ‘Beluga C2,’ which features a navy front with blue sides, and is inspired by “sea and sky.” The frames are made from recycled plastic waste collected from the ocean, including plastic bottles. The material, known as rPET, is injection moulded to create lightweight eyewear, with a wire core added for adjustability.

Dibble Optical has highlighted five new sunglasses from Milo & Me, ideal for the spring and summer. The frames are made of TR-90, a soft and flexible material, and also feature a hypoallergenic polymer in the sides and nose area. Frames include ‘Janne,’ an aviator available in three colourways including Black/White, Grey/Light Grey, and Grey green/Light grey green. The ‘Dominique,’ provides a rectangle frame, while the ‘Noel’ is available in colours ranging from light blue to dusky pink and peach. The models ‘Chris’ and ‘Lou’ round out the colourful collection.
