ROME (AP) — Pope Francis is commemorating the 60th anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council, the landmark meetings that brought the 2,000-year-old Catholic Church into the modern era, amid continued disagreement about what the council taught that divides the faithful today.

Francis is celebrating a Mass on Tuesday in honor of St. John XXIII, who convened the council and presided over its opening sessions. Tuesday’s commemoration opens with a reading of John’s inaugural speech and ends with a re-enactment of the candle-lit procession that lit up St. Peter’s Square on the night of Oct. 11, 1962.

Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Co. says it plans to sell its Russian operations to its local partner and end manufacturing there. The company said Tuesday that its executive committee approved the sale to Russia's Central Research and Development Automobile and Engine Institute, or NAMI. The company said the sale includes Nissan's factory and R&D facilities in St. Petersburg and its sales and marketing center in Moscow. Nissan suspended manufacturing in Russia in March after the invasion of Ukraine. The company said the terms of the sale give Nissan the option to buy back its Russian business within the next six years.

Most people have an inner critic that sometimes judges their actions and behaviors, including those related to money. That voice may label them as overspenders, for example, or insist they’ll never understand investing. Claims like those can be self-fulfilling. Why reel in spending or learn about investing if you’ve already determined you can’t do so? Identifying those criticisms and acknowledging their impact can help you wrangle them. And with practice, you may even learn from these claims. If there’s a bit of truth in what your inner critic says, it may prompt you to improve your situation, rather than talk down to yourself.

Scottish champion Celtic has been fined $14,600 by UEFA because fans displayed an anti-monarchy banner at a Champions League game days after the death of Queen Elizabeth. A slogan with an expletive about the British crown was shown in Warsaw during Celtic’s 1-1 draw with Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk. Celtic has historic links to the republican movement in Ireland and many fans traditionally oppose the British monarchy. UEFA says the provocative banner was a “message not fit for a sports event." UEFA also fined Red Star Belgrade, Malmo and Viktoria Plzeň for misconduct by fans.

The United Nations’ development program is calling on rich countries and financial institutions in them to do more to help alleviate a growing debt crisis faced by the world’s poorest countries, including by writing off debts, not just rescheduling them. A report from UNDP released on Tuesday comes amid meetings by the World Bank, International Monetary Fund and Group of 20 countries in Washington that are expected to consider in part a growing debt crisis that is weighing on the developing world, as interest rates have risen this year and driven up borrowing costs.

The 2023 Rugby World Cup chief executive has been fired following an investigation by French labor inspectors into his workplace conduct. Tournament organizers say Claude Atcher's sacking will “ensure that the preparations for Rugby World Cup 2023 can continue in the highest level of professionalism and in a peaceful social climate." Atcher was suspended in August following an internal investigation at the request of sports minister Amélie Oudéa-Castera. The investigation showed “alarming managerial practices” and “the suffering of some employees.”

The Indiana Pacers start this season in a different position. They’re no longer satisfied with making the playoffs or trying to advance beyond the first round. Instead, they want to build a long-term contender. And they're rebuilding around a young team of talented prospects with more on the way. It will take patience, steady improvement and more than just wins to complete this new journey.

Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies have more experience along with postseason heartbreak. What matters most for this very young team is what comes next. Morant says there's no pressure on the Grizzlies since they didn't win the championship. The Grizzlies got every point last season from players not yet 30 and still posted the NBA’s second-best record last season. The Grizzlies lost the Western Conference semifinals in six games. They were without Morant for the last three because of an injured knee. The Grizzlies took that loss to Golden State as an eye-opening look at what it takes to play deep into the NBA postseason.

A week after taking heavy criticism for not protecting quarterbacks enough the NFL was roundy criticized in Week 5 for treating them with kid gloves. Debatable roughing the passer penalties negated sacks on Tom Brady on Sunday and Derek Carr on Monday night and sent referees scrambling to explain their calls. Several current and former players weighed in on the calls and suggested the league has got to do something to rein in referees making these calls at crucial moments in games.
