Dress in light layers, grab your sunglasses and pack extra water before you head out the door Friday. The peak of this week's heat is arriving today, and we'll be staying bright and toasty through your weekend. Modest relief from the heat will arrive next week.

It's going to be another day where you'll want to dress in light layers, get your sunglasses handy, and pack extra water before you head out the door Friday. High pressure centered to our east is continuing to dominate our weather pattern, and will leave us with sunny skies, modest winds and well above average temperatures today. Skies have stayed clear overnight, and we'll have sunny skies overhead for the most part on Friday. There may be a band or two of thin clouds brushing overhead, but that's about it today. Temperatures have dipped into the 50's to 60's in the valley and foothills, while our mountain zones are starting out in the 30's to 40's again this morning. Winds are out of the northeast and mostly light to start the day, but we'll have another round of modest south winds in the afternoon. South winds in the 5 to 10mph are expected later today. Humidity will end up slightly lower in the afternoon, but the light winds will keep our fire danger in the moderate range Friday. The peak of this week's heat is expected to arrive this afternoon. Valley areas will mostly top out in the low to mid 90's, while foothill and Sierra locations climb into the upper 70's to mid 80's, and our Northern Mountain zones top out in the upper 80's to lower 90's. We'll continue to have clear skies overhead and that will help our temperatures cool off nicely this evening. It's going to pretty comfortable for anyone heading out on the town or out to watch high school football this evening. Valley areas are projected to dip back into the upper 70's to lower 80's by around 8pm.

High pressure to our east on Friday will slowly track west across northern California through this weekend, and will end up off of our coast from Sunday into Monday. We'll continue to have sunny skies, and our temperatures will continue to trend well above average for this time of year. Valley areas will start out in the upper 50's to lower 60's and top out in the upper 80's to mid 90's through your weekend, while foothill areas start out in the 50's to 60's and end up in the 70's to mid 80's. Mountain zones will dip into the 30's to 40's and then top out in the 80's to low 90's through this weekend. We'll also continue to have modest northeast winds in the mornings and modest south winds in the afternoons. A weak trough of low pressure will slide down the coast from Sunday into Monday and another stronger area of low pressure will track south into the Great Basin from Tuesday through the middle of next week. These troughs will help to leave our temperatures falling by a degree or two each day through Wednesday, but the latest models keep us above average. Projections keep low temperatures in the upper 50's to lower 60's and high temperatures in the mid 80's to lower 90's in the valley from Tuesday through the middle of next week. Foothill areas will have low temperatures in the 50's to 60's and high temperatures in the 70's, while our mountain zones have low temperatures in the 30's to 40's and high temperatures in the 70's to lower 80's through the middle of next week. The trough to our east will bring the potential for gusty north winds through the middle of next week depending on how close it tracks to our east, and if we do end up with those stronger winds that will drive elevated fire danger across our region.
