The Sandman is now streaming on Netflix. In the fantasy series, viewers are introduced to many villains, but there’s one villain in particular that really sticks out. One of the first antagonists we meet is the Corinthian. He might look like your average human being, but he’s so much more than that, and he’s hiding something under his dark, stylish shades.

Spoilers ahead for The Sandman

We’re introduced to the Corinthian in the first episode, and immediately we can tell he’s up to no good. The Corinthian is a Nightmare created by Morpheus (Tom Sturridge). He constantly goes against the clear boundaries set between the Dreaming and the waking world, which upsets Morpheus.

As a Nightmare, the Corinthian is supposed to reflect the dark side of humanity and is not allowed to leave the Dreaming. However, he rebels against Morpheus and escapes the Dreaming to walk the waking world, killing people and subtly empowering like-minded people to do the same. But why does he wear dark sunglasses? I mean, he seldom takes them off. We answered this burning question below!

The Corinthian is described as being physically attractive, well-dressed, and looking like a normal human man. He comes off as charming, but that’s just his way of getting what he wants. He purposefully wears dark sunglasses all the time to hide what’s underneath them: eye sockets with two sets of teeth set into them.

To lure his victims, the Corinthian obviously has to look appealing. However, since he has no eyes, this wouldn’t likely attract people to him. So, he covers his lack of eyes with sunglasses. Although the Corinthian doesn’t have eyes, he can see very well.

After he murders his victims, he often indulges by eating their eyeballs. However, he doesn’t eat them with his mouth. According to The Sandman comics, he eats them with his toothy sockets. We get to see him eating eyeballs in the fantasy series, but we don’t actually get to see him eating them with the two tiny mouths in his eye sockets. We’ll likely learn more about the Corinthian and his powers in a potential second season.

We definitely haven’t seen the last of the Corinthian, so fingers crossed we get a second season of The Sandman.
